More than 70 volunteers from the Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS®, its Housing Opportunities Committee, and the Ambassadors Foundation, teamed up on May 31 to help a local family improve their home and living conditions. The REALTORS®, along with family members and other community helpers, came together to help the Golden Hill family.

The residence of the Police family was in desperate need of a facelift, and the crew refurbished the home to make a huge impact in the neighborhood and create pride of ownership for this deserving family. They recently lost their father, a Marine Corps veteran and pastor, to cancer, and his wife is blind. Their daughter, meanwhile, is struggling to take care of her mother and raise four children, one of whom was adopted by the family after being abandoned.

The volunteers spent the day painting, landscaping, cleaning, disposing of trash, and removing a large and unsafe wooden outdoor playset. Meanwhile, our financial contributions helped to fund repairs to the roof, replace doors and blinds, purchase bed frames among other items. While the project was completed on May 31, the commitment to the family continues with a fundraiser to collect an additional $1,000 to purchase bedding, clothing, and other household items that have not yet been donated.
