REALTORS® Help Students Start The School Year Right!

REALTORS® Volunteer to Provide Backpacks and School Supplies to Students in Underserved Communities

In partnership with One San Diego, the Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS® Ambassadors Foundation is proud to be providing backpacks and school supplies to more than 3,500 children in some of San Diego's most underserved communities.

Through the Ambassadors Foundation, real estate professionals throughout the region are encouraged to volunteer and provide support to San Diego residents and communities in need. The foundation has again partnered with non-profit One San Diego to support the “We Have Your Back” program that gives students the right tools to start the school year.

“Our region’s housing crisis has many consequences, not the least of which is the number of families that struggle every day to put food on their table much less purchase new school supplies for the coming year,” stated Carla Farley, Vice President of the Ambassadors Foundation. “Children are the fabric of our community and future and legacy of every home. We hope that our efforts this week working alongside One San Diego will prepare these students to take on the school year and will put them on a path to success. As members of the community, that’s what we care about. As REALTORS®, that’s who we R.”

Nearly 60 REALTORS® helped distribute backpacks and school supplies to students at five underserved elementary schools this week including Encanto, Horton, Walker, Baker, and Kimbrough. Each of the backpacks contained school-approved materials such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, and calculators. Students in these communities report a higher incidence of homelessness, and families often struggle financially to provide their young ones with necessary school supplies. This amazing program was designed to help students kick off the school year right with enthusiasm and excitement.

“The success of our backpack events is in part due to our amazing partners, like the Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS®," stated Dena Disario, One San Diego Executive Director. "Their brand ambassadors have supported us this entire week at each event from set up to distribution of the backpacks… truly amazing.”

The brand-new backpacks and supplies are estimated to cost between $25-$50 each. Monetary donations to support the program can be given on One San Diego’s website.

“Having the opportunity for our students to not only receive all their school supplies but see the community all come together and support them is amazing," said Dr. Kathleen Gallagher, Principal, Baker Elementary. “We are truly grateful."
