As part of the Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS® (SDAR’s) ongoing commitment to the region, our nonprofit Ambassadors Foundation has partnered with the Safe Homes Coalition, San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, and American Medical Response to take up the fight against the opioid epidemic that is threatening our communities.

The Ambassadors Foundation has enlisted “Community Ambassadors” from among the SDAR membership to distribute information and resources to help eliminate potentially harmful medications from homes and communities throughout San Diego. The Community Ambassadors will “walk their farm,” the areas in which they cultivate their business.

What began in 2014 as a focused effort to remove prescription drugs from open houses has expanded this year to a region-wide effort to remove expired and unwanted prescription medications from homes throughout San Diego County.

With countless numbers of prescription pills sitting in the medicine cabinets of homes across the country, real estate professionals are leading countywide precinct walks with government officials, program partners and other volunteers to inform families about the dangers of opioid abuse and safe disposal of expired and unwanted prescription medicine.

"Communities are the cornerstone of our county and the opioid crisis directly threatens their safety. Homes and families are at risk and we are committed to protecting them." - Kevin M. Burke, JD, President, Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS®
